What is the difference between Quartz, Mechanical, Automatic, and Solar watches?
Quartz Watches
- Powered by a battery that sends an electrical current through a quartz crystal, which oscillates to regulate timekeeping.
- Highly accurate, low maintenance, and affordable.
- Requires a battery change every 2-3 years.
Mechanical Watches:
- Powered by a manually wound mainspring.
- No battery required, but must be wound regularly.
- Often crafted with high precision and valued for their traditional craftsmanship.
- Typically less accurate than quartz watches and requires servicing every 5 years.
Automatic Watches (Self-winding Mechanical):
- Similar to mechanical atches but with a built-in rotor that winds the mainspring using wrist
movement. - No need to wind manually if worn regularly; however, if left unworn, it may need to be wound manually or stored in a watch winder.
- Requires servicing like mechanical watches (every 3-5 years).
Solar Watches:
- Powered by light (natural or artificial) that charges a rechargeable battery via solar panels (often hidden under the dial).
- Can run for months after a full charge, with some models featuring power reserves of up to 6-12 months.
- Very low maintenance and eco-friendly since it eliminates the need for frequent battery replacements.
How often should I service my watch?
Just like with cars, watches also require regular
maintenance due to their intricate movements. We usually suggest servicing your
automatic watch once every 5 years. This ensures that your watch can reach its
maximum lifespan. During the maintenance service, our watchmakers full take
apart the watch, re-lubricate the components which require it and clean all the
components before reassembling the watch. During this service, our watchmakers
can also see any possible problems with the watch which might cause malfunctions
in the future and can give advice on the future maintenance of the watch.
For quartz (battery-powered) watches, we usually
recommend a service if the watch lasts less than 1.5 years with new batteries,
as this can be the result of built-up debris in the movement.

What is the warranty good for?
Warranties for watches vary in duration, from 2
years up to 5 years from the date of purchase for international warranties.
Along with the international warranty, we also offer our own warranty, which
has a duration of 2 to 3 years from the date of purchase.
The warranty only covers damages to the movement
of the watch and does not cover any external damages.
For more details on warranty, contact us at szerviz@ungaroswiss.hu
Important note: We can only accept warranty
services if the customer still has the original warranty card!
What is the process of returning a product?
We have a 14-day return policy, where we only accept the return of products which are unused/unworn and have the original packaging and documentation. After the 14 days of receiving the product, we can not accept any returns.

What is the difference between sapphire, mineral, and acrylic watch crystals?
- Sapphire crystal: The most scratch-resistant, commonly found in luxury watches.
- Mineral crystal: More affordable and still scratch-resistant but less durable than sapphire.
- Acrylic (Plexi): Lightweight and shatter-resistant, but scratches easily
What does “water resistance” mean on a watch?
Water resistance is measured in meters (m) or ATM (atmospheres)
(equivalent to bar) and indicates how much water pressure the watch can
withstand.
- 30m (3 ATM) - Splash resistant (not for swimming)
- 50m (5 ATM) - Can handle light swimming (but should generally be avoided)
- 100m (10 ATM) - Suitable for swimming and snorkling
- 200+m (20+ ATM) - Ideal for diving
